Puerto Viejo beach is located on the Caribbean Sea (part of South Atlantic Ocean) and it is in the 162th place out of 233 beaches in the Costa Rica region 148.7 km away from its center, the city of San Jose. It is one of the beaches of Cocles settlement, just 2.9 km from its center. The beach is located in an urban area. It is partially covered by trees which give natural shade.

It is a small bay with turquoise water and bright sand, so you don't need special shoes. The sharpness of entering the water is quite normal. This beach is suitable for different categories of people, lonely travellers, relaxation getaway lovers etc. It is partially crowded during the high season.

"I really liked spending my time at the beach where there are also locals chilling with some reggae music. The beach is quite small but long. There rocks and corrals so you can't really swim long distances."

"Beach is pretty standard/good, but the town and the ambiance is the best! Friendly people everywhere. Lots of people speak English which is very convenient as well. Favorite place in Costa Rica by much! For beaches I would recommend Punta Uva over all, but also Manzanillo, Cahuita, Cocles and Puerto Vargas."
