Calm, measured rest and the sound of waves are perhaps the most common associations that arise with the word "beach". This is not surprising, as relaxation is exactly what many beach travelers are looking for. If you associate your vacation primarily with such activity, choose one of the 345 beaches in the country.

To make your choice easier, we have prepared a list of the best beaches for relaxation in Indonesia.

Attraction and Infrastructure

As for the main features of the beaches of Indonesia, they are as follows:

  • The country's beaches are mainly narrow, moderate length and have a high level of cleanliness. The most common surface is sand of bright color.
  • Since many beaches are sandy, we recommend taking special shoes with you to avoid discomfort during your vacation.
  • Usually, entry into the water is gentle, which is very good for kids. There are 218 such beaches.
  • An important clarification, 188 beaches in the country have a long intertidal zone, which means that during low tide hours you may have to travel a considerable distance. This is also something to consider if you don't want to suddenly be in the water at high tide.
  • The average distance from the road to beach in Indonesia is less than 500 meters. 272 beaches are relatively easy to access, 16 beaches are difficult to access, which in most cases means that you have to walk a quite long distance, and 52 beaches are only accessible from the water. The latter include both island beaches and beaches with no land routes due to the natural borders.

The vast majority of Indonesia beaches have the necessary amenities, such as sun loungers, umbrellas, beach cafes, showers and toilets.

Latest reviews on Indonesia's beaches

Nusa Dua Beach
10 Amandalyn Vega

The beach near The Mulia Resort Nusa Dua is a great spot for swimming. Additionally, the beach boasts golden, fine sand that adds to the overall enjoyment of the experience.

Pink Beach Lombok
2 sam mo

This place isn't worth visiting as it's quite remote and the beach doesn't have the pink sand.

Ketapang Tampes beach
10 Yolanda Smith

We provided shelter kits to families in need, showing our love and support.

Nusa Dua Grand Hyatt
10 Dedra Kessler

This pristine beach with a vast expanse of sparkling sand that stretches on for miles. While sun beds are available, they are reserved exclusively for hotel guests. Security officers keep a watchful eye on the area and politely remind visitors that the amenities are only for those staying at the hotels. The water is crystal clear, though the waves can be quite powerful. During my visit in September, the day was scorching hot, but the refreshing water provided much-needed relief from the heat. Despite its beauty, the beach is not overrun with crowds and is meticulously maintained.

Kedonganan Beach
10 Niran Vayu

This beach offers an idyllic setting to bask in the sunset and indulge in the delectable local seafood. If you're part of a big group, I suggest heading to the market to purchase some freshly caught seafood and then taking it to one of the seafood huts to cook it up for a fraction of the cost. It's an experience like no other!

Gili Air Sunset Beach
8 Ezra Stone

This beach is a lovely and peaceful spot to relax and enjoy the sunset.

Please note that lifeguards supervise 23 beaches in the country, but you should rely on more than just them, remember the elementary rules, as lifeguards are not on duty around the clock, even on equipped beaches!

Finding hotels in relative proximity to the beaches is usually fine. Many beaches have enough nearby accommodation, which gives good opportunities to choose the right place to stay.
