Calm, measured rest and the sound of waves are perhaps the most common associations that arise with the word "beach". This is not surprising, as relaxation is exactly what many beach travelers are looking for. If you associate your vacation primarily with such activity, choose one of the 880 beaches in the country.

To make your choice easier, we have prepared a list of the best beaches for relaxation in Mexico.

Attraction and Infrastructure

As for the main features of the beaches of Mexico, they are as follows:

  • The country's beaches are mainly wide, long and have a high level of cleanliness. The most common surface is sand of bright color.
  • Usually, entry into the water is moderately gentle, such beaches are 609.
  • An important clarification, 120 beaches in the country have a long intertidal zone, which means that during low tide hours you may have to travel a considerable distance. This is also something to consider if you don't want to suddenly be in the water at high tide.
  • The average distance from the road to beach in Mexico is less than 500 meters. 799 beaches are relatively easy to access, 33 beaches are difficult to access, which in most cases means that you have to walk a quite long distance, and 46 beaches are only accessible from the water. The latter include both island beaches and beaches with no land routes due to the natural borders.

The vast majority of Mexico beaches have the necessary amenities, such as sun loungers, umbrellas, beach cafes, showers and toilets.

Latest reviews on Mexico's beaches

Playa de Chachalacas
4 Arthur Feltham

The beach is completely spoiled by the constant presence of quad bikes, which puts our dog in constant danger and requires us to be constantly vigilant. It's far from being a relaxing experience, as it feels more like having a busy road right on the beach. Additionally, the water is disappointingly murky. I doubt I would choose to return to that beach.

Playa El Tecolote
10 Kaden Harper

This beach is a fantastic place to stay with its breathtaking views and a wide variety of restaurants, bars, and water sports activities such as boat rentals, water skiing, and jet skiing. Additionally, there are also sports activities like tennis and a gym available. Although the resort experience may start to feel repetitive at times, the client restaurants and shops provide a refreshing change. The rooms are pleasant and roomy, with some even offering amenities like steam saunas, private pools, and baths. The breakfast and lunch options are abundant and delicious.

Playa el Chileno
10 MJ Thompson

This beach is a hidden gem, offering convenient amenities like clean bathrooms and the option to rent chairs and umbrellas for those who didn't bring their own for the hot weather. Despite its small size, the beach boasts stunningly clear blue water. It's an excellent spot for snorkeling, although you can easily observe most of the fish by simply standing in the water. However, be cautious of the strong current and rocky sand that may cause you to sink slightly. Overall, it's a lovely little spot to spend the day unwinding, taking a dip, snorkeling, or simply basking in the sun.

Playa Tortugas
8 Mateo Rivera.

The water is decent and the atmosphere is enjoyable with complimentary seating and umbrellas provided when dining at the restaurant. Additionally, there is entertainment from the numerous jet skis in the area.

Playa Tecolutla
10 Jaxon Grove

The beach is fantastic.

Garbage everywhere and construction constantly. nobody seems to care about this area at all. Very sad

Please note that lifeguards supervise 241 beaches in the country, but you should rely on more than just them, remember the elementary rules, as lifeguards are not on duty around the clock, even on equipped beaches!

Finding hotels in relative proximity to the beaches is usually fine. Many beaches have enough nearby accommodation, which gives good opportunities to choose the right place to stay.
