Calm, measured rest and the sound of waves are perhaps the most common associations that arise with the word "beach". This is not surprising, as relaxation is exactly what many beach travelers are looking for. If you associate your vacation primarily with such activity, choose one of the 570 beaches in the region.

To make your choice easier, we have prepared a list of the best beaches for relaxation in England.

Attraction and Infrastructure

As for the main features of the beaches of England, they are as follows:

  • The region's beaches are mainly wide, moderate length and have a high level of cleanliness. The most common surface is sand of bright color.
  • Usually, entry into the water is gentle, which is very good for kids. There are 337 such beaches.
  • An important clarification, 225 beaches in the region have a long intertidal zone, which means that during low tide hours you may have to travel a considerable distance. This is also something to consider if you don't want to suddenly be in the water at high tide.
  • The average distance from the road to beach in England is less than 500 meters. 526 beaches are relatively easy to access, 35 beaches are difficult to access, which in most cases means that you have to walk a quite long distance, and 6 beaches are only accessible from the water. The latter include both island beaches and beaches with no land routes due to the natural borders.

Wild beaches with no infrastructure dominate the coastline of England however, even here you can find a beach with a standard set of accessories: sun beds, umbrellas, restaurants, showers and toilets.

Latest reviews on England's beaches

Babbacombe beach
10 Lynx A.

The beach was an absolute stunner! The weather was just right for my first visit and I was left awestruck by the sheer beauty of the place. It's a great spot if you're looking for some solitude and want to have your own little slice of paradise. And let's not forget about the photo ops - they were simply amazing! The beach was impeccably clean and well-maintained. Needless to say, I'll definitely be returning to this little slice of heaven.

Frinton beach
10 Lila Renard.

Upon arriving at the beach, we noticed the water level was high. As we waited for it to recede, we enjoyed lunch in the nearby open fields. We had difficulty finding many options for fish and chips or ice cream. However, we had no trouble parking as it was both easy and free. The beach was peaceful and uncrowded with soft, sandy shores. The water was crystal clear and refreshing. Overall, we had a wonderful time. The locals were extremely friendly, especially when my wife took a tumble and many kind souls came to her aid.

Teignmouth beach
1 David Jones

It's not a nice beach at all, overcrowded and quite unpleasant to walk on

Charlestown beach
2 Yvonne Barnes

Very rundown, not many ships to see. Car park £1.50 per hour. Toilets didn't work, require a credit card to swipe 20p but the ladies were permanently engaged, only the gents worked. Wouldn't bother, except one cafe does brilliant crab sandwiches.

Formby Beach
8 Landon Jex

We parked at the car park at Formby Point and took a short stroll to reach the beach. The beach is absolutely beautiful, stretching out as far as the eye can see. It was a delightful experience walking on the beach, and the sand dunes added an extra element of fun. No matter your age, you can still enjoy climbing to the top and sliding down the dunes. I highly recommend visiting Formby Beach for a great time.

Studland Naturist beach
10 Outdoor Trek (Lena Novak)

This beach is absolutely beautiful with soft sand and dunes in the background. It's also a naturist beach, which makes it one of my top picks in the area.

Please note that lifeguards supervise 78 beaches in the region, but you should rely on more than just them, remember the elementary rules, as lifeguards are not on duty around the clock, even on equipped beaches!

Finding hotels in relative proximity to the beaches is usually fine. Many beaches have enough nearby accommodation, which gives good opportunities to choose the right place to stay.
