Calm, measured rest and the sound of waves are perhaps the most common associations that arise with the word "beach". This is not surprising, as relaxation is exactly what many beach travelers are looking for. If you associate your vacation primarily with such activity, choose one of the 282 beaches in the state.
To make your choice easier, we have prepared a list of the best beaches for relaxation in Hawaii.
As for the main features of the beaches of Hawaii, they are as follows:
Wild beaches with no infrastructure dominate the coastline of Hawaii however, even here you can find a beach with a standard set of accessories: sun beds, umbrellas, restaurants, showers and toilets.
Avoid this beach at all costs. The area is infested with homeless individuals who have set up camp and left behind a trail of garbage and filth. It's a truly unpleasant sight to behold. If you're looking for a better option, head to the Makapu'u Beach Park located further south.
I was searching for a spot to admire the sunset, and this beach turned out to be perfect. It had a vibrant and enjoyable ambiance, which was the perfect way to end a day full of adventures in Hawaii. If you're planning to catch the sunset behind the ridgeline, I would suggest arriving early as finding parking can be a bit challenging. Additionally, this beach is worth a visit for other beach activities like paddle boarding, water polo, rowing, and more.
We arrived on a weekday at around 1 PM and were able to find a parking space. We were informed that the small parking area is usually full in the morning as local surfers come here to catch the waves and stay for a few hours, but it seems possible to find a parking spot in the afternoon. The entrance to the trail doesn't have any signs, but it's right next to the parking lot. The trail is quite short, taking only about 15 minutes to descend, but the slope is steep, so it's advisable to wear closed-toe shoes. Once you reach the bottom, you'll discover a small beach with plenty of shade. I suggest coming here earlier in the day as the beach faces north, causing it to get dark earlier in the afternoon.
First of all whoever wrote the description of Milolii Beach is wrong. This beach is not a free for all beach for all beach goers. Pets are not allowed down at the beach. There is a community that lives down there who are descendants of the original Milolii Fishing Village. Who still practice traditional fishing that is passed down from generation to generation. There is no PUBLIC ACCESS to Honomolino beach. The county does not take care of the trail. The shoreline is under CBSFA. So to the author of the description of Milolii beach you should talk to a local community member first to get your facts straight.
Please note that lifeguards supervise 62 beaches in the state, but you should rely on more than just them, remember the elementary rules, as lifeguards are not on duty around the clock, even on equipped beaches!
Finding hotels in relative proximity to the beaches is usually fine. Many beaches have enough nearby accommodation, which gives good opportunities to choose the right place to stay.
The hottest month of the state is August - air temperature during this time warms up to 27.7°C and water up to 27.9°C. The coldest month is March - air temperature drops to 22.3°C and water to 23.3°C.
