It's important to be cautious when swimming here, as the beach shelves steeply and the surf can be strong at times. At the northern end of the beach, there is a more sheltered cove called Monkey Bay, which can be accessed by steps. Additionally, there is a Department of Conservation campsite located at the northern end. It's worth noting that despite what Google may say, there is no beach pavilion at this location.
