Calm, measured rest and the sound of waves are perhaps the most common associations that arise with the word "beach". This is not surprising, as relaxation is exactly what many beach travelers are looking for. If you associate your vacation primarily with such activity, choose one of the 491 beaches in the region.

To make your choice easier, we have prepared a list of the best beaches for relaxation in New South Wales.

Attraction and Infrastructure

As for the main features of the beaches of New South Wales, they are as follows:

  • The region's beaches are mainly wide, long and have a high level of cleanliness. The most common surface is sand of bright color.
  • Usually, entry into the water is gentle, which is very good for kids. There are 297 such beaches.
  • The average distance from the road to beach in New South Wales is less than 500 meters. 455 beaches are relatively easy to access, 20 beaches are difficult to access, which in most cases means that you have to walk a quite long distance, and 15 beaches are only accessible from the water. Wild beaches with no infrastructure dominate the coastline of New South Wales however, even here you can find a beach with a standard set of accessories: sun beds, umbrellas, restaurants, showers and toilets.

Latest reviews on New South Wales's beaches

Byron Beach

This beach is located right next to the town center and it is incredibly popular. Even at 10:30 am, it was a real challenge to find a parking spot. However, once we managed to park the car, we were greeted by a truly fantastic beach. It offers something for everyone, whether you're a surfer, swimmer, walker, or just looking to unwind. The water was still pleasantly warm and the panoramic views were absolutely delightful.

Ballina Beach

There are numerous stunning beaches in the Ballina and Byron Bay area, and this is by far my favorite spot in Australia to relax on the sandy shores and swim in the ocean. It was my first visit to Lighthouse Beach in Ballina, and I was delighted to find an abundance of intriguing crabs, pristine white sand, and impressive waves. Additionally, it was pleasantly uncrowded.

Dee Why Beach
10 Peter Feltham

This beach was one of our favorites during our holiday. It offered ample space and a variety of food and coffee choices along the waterfront. Additionally, there were multiple clean restrooms and both kids and adult swimming pools. We even took a pleasant walk from here to Curl Curl beach. However, we only visited once by car due to the exorbitant parking fee of $40 for the entire day. As a result, we recommend either parking on a side street or taking the bus, which is what we ultimately did.

Kirra Beach
10 Sammie

The venue has been executed excellently. The staff were extremely friendly and the cocktails were of high quality! Just a small suggestion for the manager: the prawn pizza was quite soggy. It seems like either the prawns are frozen and defrosting, resulting in excess water, or the metal plate on which it is served is causing the pizza to become steamy and messy after a minute or two. I hope you can address this issue!

Sawtell Beach
10 Bert Tobbier

This beach is absolutely perfect in numerous ways. It is situated in a stunning town with plenty of coffee shops and restaurants. The beaches are safe and ideal for families with children, and there is also a fantastic estuary for fishing and swimming. Additionally, there is a scenic walking path that offers breathtaking 270 degree ocean views. I highly recommend visiting this beach.

Killalea Beach
10 Chase Anderson

This beach is absolutely breathtaking, surrounded by majestic hills / cliffs. It's remarkable how the waves here are even more powerful than what the online reports suggest.

Please note that lifeguards supervise 122 beaches in the region, but you should rely on more than just them, remember the elementary rules, as lifeguards are not on duty around the clock, even on equipped beaches!

Finding hotels in relative proximity to the beaches is usually fine. Many beaches have enough nearby accommodation, which gives good opportunities to choose the right place to stay.
