Preveli Beach

This beach is absolutely stunning! The scenery is breathtaking, making it feel like a tropical paradise in Crete. You have the opportunity to take a stroll along the river and even swim in it, as well as explore the palm forest. It's definitely worth a visit and shouldn't be missed. If you want to avoid the 382 steps, a simpler way to get there is to drive to Dionysos beach and walk for just 8 minutes to reach Preveli beach.

This tranquil beach boasts pristine, translucent waters that are a sight to behold. However, it can be quite breezy here. The sunbeds are available at a reasonable price of 6 euros. Additionally, there are delightful taverns in close proximity that serve delectable seafood dishes. Our decision to visit this beach was a wise one, especially after our unpleasant experience at Preveli.

Skinaria beach

This is one of my top picks for an authentic experience in Crete. The beach is fantastic and never too crowded, but it's best to arrive early to secure a good parking spot since parking is limited. The road leading to the beach is narrow but safe, with plenty of spots to pull over and wait for passing cars. The tavern serves delicious food, and I particularly enjoyed the pasticio. For an enchanting experience, I highly recommend staying at the hotel on the beach. It's a simple and affordable option, and you'll be able to enjoy the magic of the beach in the evening and at night. Plus, there are no mosquitoes to worry about!

Ammoudi beach

When we visited the beach, it was quite windy. However, despite the wind, we still preferred it over the difficult-to-reach rocky beach and the crowded Ammoundaki. The water was incredibly clear and teeming with fish, thanks to the presence of seaweed. There was also a really cool tavern/food truck with a laid-back hippie atmosphere, offering simple yet satisfying food and drinks.

Souda beach

You can access this fantastic pebble beach with crystal-clear turquoise water from two directions: Plakias or Sellia. The latter route may be a bit challenging to navigate, but the breathtaking views of the sea from the mountain make it worth it. You can enjoy free sunbeds by ordering a drink at a nearby bar. It's an ideal spot to spend a scorching summer day.

This beach is one of the best I've ever visited. It is incredibly clean and definitely worth a visit. The waves here are quite powerful and can toss you around, but the beach itself is entirely sandy, which adds to the fun. It's a perfect spot for kids as they can go as far as 100 meters into the water and still be able to stand.
