Whites Beach

This coastal walk near Piha is truly amazing. It takes about 45 minutes to drive there from Auckland. As you walk through the native forest, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of the coast on your way to the secluded Whites Beach. To access the beach, it's best to combine the Marawhara trail, starting at North Piha near the surf lifesaving club, with Whites Track. This route will take you about 40-60 minutes and involves some climbing on a well-maintained trail. From there, it's a pleasant 30-minute downhill walk to Whites Beach. If you want to return, you can take the Laird Thomson Track, which will lead you back to North Piha and also includes the Te Waha Point Lookout. However, it's important to note that swimming is not advised at this beach due to its dangerous surf, strong riptides, and hidden rocks.

Incredibly beautiful beach! The Karekare waterfall is only a short 5-minute stroll from the parking area. The road leading to the beach is pleasantly curvy, so it's advisable to drive at a leisurely pace as oncoming vehicles may not be visible around the bends.

This beach is truly amazing. The car park is quite small, as is the alternative one. However, there are plenty of places to play and seek shelter from the sun. The picnic spots are absolutely beautiful. It's important to be cautious of the Pacific Ocean waters, as is typical of the West Coast. My favorite find was the oyster heart 😊.
