Petone Beach

Well, I suppose it all depends on what you're looking for in a beach. It's long, easy to get to, dog-friendly, has a great view, and is close to the Jackson Street shops. However, coming from Christchurch, I have to say that Petone Beach doesn't quite measure up to Sumner or New Brighton beaches, which I consider to be 5-star beaches. When I think of a beach, I think of sunbathing, playing in the sand, and swimming as my top priorities. While Petone Beach does offer easy access to water, shops, a nice view, and space for dogs, the sand is full of shells, broken shells, and sticks, making it difficult to walk barefoot. The water may be warm, but it's visibly dirty. Personally, I don't think it deserves more than 3 stars. However, it's great for running and the view is absolutely stunning.
