Latest reviews on Ponta Garca's beaches

Praia do Fogo

This beach has stunning black sand and convenient amenities like parking and facilities. It's said that the shallow water and thermal activity make the ocean here warmer, but despite that, the water was still pretty chilly when I went for a swim in mid-June. We arrived in the late afternoon and it was pleasantly uncrowded. Even though the water was cold, the beach's natural beauty made it worth a visit, especially if you've never experienced a black sand beach before.

Praia Pequena de Agua d'Alto
10 Lena Kozlovski.

This idyllic location is a true gem. Nestled amongst the two exquisite Agua d'Alto sandy beaches, it boasts unparalleled beauty and tranquility. Despite its splendor, it remains refreshingly uncrowded, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the natural surroundings. Furthermore, parking is a breeze, even during peak season. It's the ultimate spot for those seeking a serene and picturesque escape.

Praia da Vinha da Areia

This urban beach boasts a soft, sandy shore and is equipped with a convenient beach bar and attentive lifeguards. The beach is divided by a stretch of large rocks, which can be a bit of a challenge during high tide. However, if you position your towel near the promenade, you'll still be able to enjoy the crystal-clear waters. The only drawback is the view of the nearby port, but overall it's a great spot for a refreshing swim near Ponta Delgado.

Praia Ribeira das Tainhas

This beach is absolutely breathtaking! It's a hidden gem that we were lucky enough to have almost entirely to ourselves for a good portion of the day. The sand is incredibly soft and the water is easy to enter. Although parking is located at the top, the descent down the steps is a breeze. There are even showers available on the beach and a restroom at the top. Just be sure to bring your own snacks and drinks as the nearby cafes and shops were closed during our visit. Trust us, this beach is definitely worth a visit and you won't be disappointed!

Povoacao Beach

This beach is truly one of the most picturesque destinations I have ever visited. The charming town of Povoçao is nestled on one side while the awe-inspiring emerald cliffs grace the other. Additionally, for those who prefer to avoid the discomfort of sandy toes, there is a stunning saltwater infinity pool that is free for all to enjoy.

Praia da Pedreira
10 Zoran Kovačić.

Undoubtedly, the most pleasant beach on the island, albeit a bit of a hassle to reach, is a true gem. The sand is soft and smooth, unlike the rocky terrain of other beaches. It's a secluded spot, with hardly any visitors. I only encountered two individuals upon my arrival, and just as I was leaving, a group of five was making their way down. A visit to this beach is truly an experience worth savoring.
