Sodwana Bay

We spent three wonderful days in Sodwana and were amazed by the stunning beach with its soft sand. You can either pay to enter the reserve or access the beach for free from a car park just before the reserve entrance. It's important to note that dogs are not allowed in the reserve or on the beach. However, we were disappointed to find that the free parking lot was in poor condition, covered in broken glass and litter. This was a stark contrast to the pristine cleanliness of the beach and reserve. Luckily, there are cafe and restroom facilities available on the beach, which were clean and well-stocked with toilet paper. There are also restrooms located near the reserve parking lot, although we did not use them.

The beach is stunning and the drive through the pristine wetland ecosystem is amazing. You may spot some wildlife during the drive. The beach is well-maintained and has showers and ablutions available. It's a great spot for swimming, sunbathing, and fishing, with a boat launching site and a fish cleaning area. There's a small shop that sells ice cream, and you can also get petrol and diesel. Unfortunately, the reef is not in great condition, so snorkeling isn't the best, but it's still a peaceful place to snorkel with minimal currents. There's a small variety of fish to see while snorkeling. It would have been nicer if the shop sold beverages.

We absolutely adore this destination ❤️💙, it's without a doubt the finest beach in all of RSA. For those who enjoy off-roading, there are fantastic 4x4 trails to put your SUV to the test. The Kosi Black Rock reserve has a limited capacity of approximately 20 vehicles, and the necessary permit can be obtained from the Kosi Ezemvelo office. The friendly and knowledgeable staff are always available to assist with suggestions for nearby beaches and activities, such as fishing, kayaking, forest walks, and snorkeling. For those who love snorkeling, Black Rock is the ideal spot, with a short hiking trail and rock climbing opportunities also available. A pristine restroom facility is conveniently located near the parking area. Families can't go wrong with a visit to Black Rock, as both young and old alike will adore this destination ❤️💙.
