This quaint alpine village has seen millennia of history and was named after a pagan Goddess. From prehistory to celtic times, early medieval to the nazi rule, Berchtesgaden stayed a hotspot. As a town, it’s roots go back to 1102 AD, and it’s existence is deeply connected to the salt mines in this town that enriched the entire region, therefore passing hands from nobility and clergy until it joined Bavaria in 1810. On the foothills of the famous Watzmann mountain seen in “The Sound of Music”, it is no wonder that even the bavarian royalty chose it as one of their residences. Later on Adolf Hitler took interest as well, later building his mountain residence at Obersalzberg and making Berchtesgaden a nazi stronghold during the World War II. This tour will give all the hindsight on these and many more details, stories and less known facts about a little alpine town that once had a hand in international affairs.

Here you have the opportunity to visit the castle and explore this fairytale city. The first time that Easy Company part of the 101st. Airborne division reached the hills of Obersalzberg most of the buildings in that area where destroyed. If you visit this area today you will see that a lot has changed, the forest has taken over and a big parking place leads people straight up the mountain. This tour is here to provide you with far reaching insight of the historical locations hidden in the forest, see the ruins of Hitler's house and other WWII sights that will bring history to life. Then hike up from there to the Eagle's Nest and you will following the steps of the first American soldiers that got there by foot in May 1945. Even though the Eagle's Nest is one of the most visited places in Germany our tour will take us thru a more richer and less traveled path. The tour is a mix world history, exercise and incredible landscapes. I take pride in offering the best possible experience to deliver professional and safe guidance in the mountains with a relaxed atmosphere.
Much more than just a sightseeing tour! This historical guided tour (in English) combines stunning Alpine scenery with fascinating WWII history. Beginning with an explanation of the history of Obersalzberg; you'll learn why the mountainside was so decisive, and how and why it became so important to Hitler. You'll then travel in one of the mountain buses up to the Eagle's Nest and be shown around the historic building paying particular attention to the many original features that still remain, including the famous brass elevator. The tour will include ample opportunities to take photos and ask any questions you may have. The tour also includes ca. 1 hour of free time to yourselves once the guide has finished with all of the historical information. However this is flexible and can be extended (at no additional cost) if you'd like to spend longer up at the Eagle's Nest. Simply speak to your guide on the day of tour and they will be able to make the necessary amendment to your ticket.
This day trip takes you through the charming Garmisch-Partenkirchen to the Zugspitze, the highest mountain in Germany. You start your ascent with the new cable car, which will take you to the almost 3,000 meter high mountain peak in just ten minutes. After enjoying the exhilarating views over more than 400 peaks, you can explore the countryside on a short hike. For those who like things a bit faster, a toboggan hill is available on the eternal ice during the summer months. Toboggans can be borrowed free of charge. In the many restaurants (which also offer vegetarian and halal menus) you can indulge in culinary delights. The descent then takes place with the historic rack railway.
