I am Captain Gresh Meggett and I am an eighth generation Charlestonian. My family has been plying these waters since the early 1700s. These beautiful estuaries that we will be traveling on were my playground as a kid and I still get just as I was excited when I go into them now! On this tour, you will have the opportunity to experience history and the local wildlife around Folly. While we cruise through the waters along Folly Beach, you will have the opportunity to see tons of wildlife, like dolphins, sea turtles, and birds, and once we reach Morris Island, you will be in one of the best places in the world to find shark teeth. Or if you are a history buff, the Morris Island Lighthouse sits in the surf on the south end of the beach.
As we make our way through the creeks to Morris Island, you will have the opportunity to see dolphins and wading birds in the marsh and oyster beds. We will land on the south end of Morris Island, near the Lighthouse, where you will have 90 minutes to walk the beach on your own to look for shells, shark teeth and fossils. As we make our way back to the dock, you will likely see dolphins as the inlet behind the island is one of their favorite places to hang out.
Summer is the best time of the year to see pods of juvenile and baby dolphins. Join me on a private up to six guests, 2-2.5-hour boat tour through the local tidal creeks behind Folly Beach in search of our local dolphins. From the boat you will get to experience feeding techniques, socializing behaviors, and dolphins just having fun in their natural element. When spotted we will drift alongside them for great photo opportunities a get a little information about this wonderful creature. We’ll stop at Morris Island where you will have plenty of time to explore and take photos of the historic Morris Island Lighthouse. Join us on this two hour private boat tour as we explore the calm waters behind Folly Beach in search of the local bottlenose dolphins. As we cruise through the creeks and inlets, you will have the opportunity to see these beautiful animals play, sleep and hunt. If the dolphins are feeding, you may be able to observe a hunting strategy called “strand feeding,” only seen in this part of the world. This 2-hour introductory paddle on the Edge of America will get you into the basics of SUP, all in the calm flatwater of the Folly River. All safaris begin with "ground school" or SUP instructions with your Lifeguard Certified Instructors. We'll explore alongside the numerous beautiful native birds and bottlenose dolphins. We'll go with the flow, following the tides and wind direction for a great beginning paddle. At low tide we visit a private beach and go for a swim! Group photo is taken at the end of the tour, which will be posted on our social media pages. Level: Beginners to Advanced. Ages 8 and Up
