Considered as the favorite beach in the north, Casuarina Beach gets its name from the numerous Casuarina trees that can be found there. It has been preserved and untouched by humans for many years. Located north of the Karativu islands on Karainagar Island, which is one of the largest islands in the peninsula, it is about 27 kilometers away from the town of Jaffna. A direct bus ride along the Ponnalai causeway, which connects the mainland to the island, takes approximately 45 minutes and offers a scenic drive with salt pans and water on both sides.
Casuarina Beach has become a popular destination for tourists due to its unique features, including soft white sands, clear shallow blue waters without waves, and a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere. Unlike other beaches on the island, this beach provides a different experience. Taking a dip in the water is a must, as there is a long stretch of shallow areas that make it perfect for bathing. To fully appreciate the shallow waters, take a boat out to sea and enjoy the abundance of corals while the sun shines down on the crystal-clear blue waters.
If you're visiting Jaffna and in need of a place to unwind and relax, Casuarina Beach is definitely one of the best places to visit.
