Number Sixteen Beach
10 Maria Belessis

We went to Number Sixteen Beach with the intention of catching the sunrise, but we were slightly disappointed. We ran into some locals who informed us that this area is actually better for watching sunsets. Nevertheless, witnessing the sun rise over the hills and illuminate the incoming waves was truly magical. During stormy weather, the surf here is quite powerful, and the tide rises rapidly within the hour that we were there. At the time, the path to Dragon's Head appeared to be dangerous, so we decided not to attempt it. I assume this place is safer to explore when the sea is calm, as there are rock pools and formations to walk to, particularly Dragon's Head which is just a few meters to the west. The parking area can be a bit difficult to spot, located just before a hump on the road, and it is not well-maintained as there were deep ruts in the sand the closer we got to the walk. The descent from the parking area can be steep, but there is a viewing deck before the path down to the beach. Overall, the beach is not crowded in the early morning and offers a stunning view of the vast ocean. It would be ideal to explore the entire stretch on calmer and clearer days.
