Wellawatte Beach is located on the Laccadive Sea (part of Indian ocean) and it is in the 178th place out of 235 beaches in the Sri Lanka region 6.9 km away from its center, the city of Colombo. It is one of the beaches of Polhengoda settlement, just 2.7 km from its center. The beach is located in an urban area.

It is a spacious coastline with turquoise water and bright sand, so you don't need special shoes. The sharpness of entering the water is quite normal. This beach is suitable for different categories of people, lonely travellers, relaxation getaway lovers etc. It is partially crowded during the high season.

"Undoubtedly, the beach boasts breathtaking beauty. However, the upkeep leaves much to be desired. The abundance of litter is a major eyesore and detracts from the overall appeal. Additionally, the lack of shoreline along the expanse makes it difficult to find a comfortable spot to relax and relish in the surroundings."
