The Bog or swamp as a natural formation is not only interesting, but unique with its geomorphology, flora and fauna and of course stories. Hill of Crosses is a truly unique site which will take your breath away! It is is a site of pilgrimage dating back to 1830ties when people started to place crosses here to pray for their loved ones they've lost in the battles (Lithuanian - Polish commonwealth uprising against Russian Empire). In Soviet times this place served as a peaceful protest action against Soviet regime as they tried to destroy the place many times while locals kept coming back and placing more crosses all the time. The Hill of Crosses was visited by Pope John Paul II back in 1993 and since then this place has become very popular - not only between locals but also tourists from all over the world! Don't be intimidated by the fact that it is a pilgrimage site. Even if you're not religious, please note that everyone is welcome to visit this beautiful sight as long as you respect everyone else visiting it!

Visit one of the most popular sites in Lithuania! Visited by Pope John Paul II, this place has become an important pilgrimage site for Catholics. But please don't be intimidated by the fact that it is a religious site - everyone is welcome to visit this unique site - just as long as you respect the place and crosses that carry different stories with them! You will have a guided tour of the place - hear the story behind it, how it all started! We'll point out some traditional Lithuanian crosses, explain some symbols that can be seen there and give you overall information about the country, culture and its history. After the guided tour you will have free time to explore the place by yourselves - take some beautiful photos and just to take it all in as it really is breathtaking! Going there for the sunrise time will allow you to enjoy the place with no tourists around. And save a lot of time as you will be back in Riga by noon if not earlier!

Paddle downstream for around 5 hours, while enjoying the most beautiful landscapes of the Gauja River Valley, including the stunning steep riverbanks, the famous 350 million-year-old sandstone cliffs, and the dense pristine forests of Gauja National Park. Transfer from Riga city to Vilnius city with included visit to Rundale Palace and Bauska Castle. You will be picked up from your hotel in Riga by our English speaking driver. This trip will take totally about 7 to 8 hours. Local restaurants for lunch will be advised. Please note that this daytrip does not include licensed guide service.
