Start your adventure in one of the least explored archeological sites in the Maya Zone that date back to 200 BC. and let yourself be surprised by the incredible monuments, flora and fauna that the jungle has to offer you. After visiting the jungle and the Mayan city of Chacchoben, we will go to the Bacalar lagoon, a famous haven for pirates, where you can relax, swim or enjoy a kayak ride in the refreshing waters of the seven-color lagoon. Take a short break eating some delicious fajitas with your favorite drink at the edge of the lagoon or just enjoy the breeze and incredible landscape. The Mayan Ruins of Chacchoben are the most popular and visited attraction to spend a great day on the Costa Maya. It is approximately 55 minutes by car from the Port of Costa Maya. This site is located a few kilometers from the town of Chacchoben from which its name is derived. The translation of the Mayan word "Chacchoben" refers to "The Place of Red Corn." The structures at this site are characterized by large temples and enormous platforms dating back to 700 AD. c.

At Chacchoben mayan ruins you’ll be leaded by a professional local guide. We will walk in the jungle to explore and learn about the different structures of the mayan site such as: Temple 24, Plaza B, Gran Plaza, Gran Basamento, Los Gemelos, Las Vasijas and Templo Uno. This excursion also offers the possibility to learn about local plants and observe some species of local fauna, including birds and spider monkeys. At Bacalar lagoon the first place to visit is “Cenote Esmeralda”, where you’ll be amazed by the different shades of blue and understand why the Bacalar Lagoon is frequently referred as the 7 colors lagoon. The next point to enjoy will be “Black Cenote” which is an open sky cenote and also the deepest point of the lagoon. The final spot to explore is the Pirate Channel, as you’ll be explained that day, pirates used to enter Bacalar by using this channel to steal local precious wood.
