Vedaranyam (cunoscut și sub numele de Thirumaraikadu în Tamil Nadu) este un oraș din districtul Nagapattinam din statul indian Tamil Nadu. Orașul își are numele de la divinitatea prezentă în Templul Vedaranyeswarar. Istoria Vedaranyam este cunoscută din perioada medievală Chola din secolul al IX-lea și a fost ulterior condus de Cholii Medie, Cholii Ulteriori, Pandyii Ulteriori, Imperiul Vijayanagar și britanici. În timpul luptei pentru independența Indiei, C. Rajagopalachari, cunoscut și sub numele de Rajaji, care ulterior a devenit primul Guvernator-General independent al Indiei, a lansat o marș pentru sare în Vedaranyam paralel cu Marșul Dandi lansat de Gandhi în 1930 pentru a protesta împotriva taxei de vânzare impuse la extracția de sare de către stăpânitorii britanici. Vedaranyam (also known as Thirumaraikadu in Tamil ) is a town in Nagapattinam district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The town is named after the presiding deity of the Vedaranyeswarar Temple. The history of Vedaranyam is known from medieval Chola period of the 9th century and has been further ruled by the Medieval Cholas, Later Cholas, Later Pandyas, Vijayanagar Empire and the British. During India's independence struggle, C. Rajagopalachari also known as Rajaji, who later become independent India's first Governor-General, launched a salt march in Vedaranyam parallel to the Dandi March launched by Gandhi in 1930 to protest against the sales tax levied on salt extraction by British rulers.Salt extraction fields are main feature of Vedaranyam. Este o plajă drive-in. Este unul dintre puținele locuri rare în care vă puteți lua vehiculele pentru a vă plimba pe nisipul de pe plajă. Ca plaja Kannur. Răsărituri frumoase. Dar apele sunt calme și argiloase. Nu este un loc grozav nici pentru scăldat, nici pentru surfing.

It's a drive-in beach. It one of the few rare places where you can take your vehicles for a spin on the beach sand. Like Kannur beach. Beautiful sunrises. But the waters are calm and clayey. Not a great place for neither bathing nor surfing.
