After a short trip by ferry to the island and a pit stop at Qala Point, things kick off at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Ggantija Temples, which pre-date the Egyptian pyramids. The Three Cities is a collective description of the three fortified cities of Cospicua, Vittoriosa and Senglea. During the tour you will drive past Cospicua, you will then arrive in Vittoriosa. The third city Senglea is also called Civitas Invicta because it managed to resist the Ottoman invasion at the Great Siege of 1565. You will then drive to the 1743 ir-Razzett l-Antik Qormi. The wine tasting tour commences with a historical introduction amongst original artefacts, followed by an explanation about the process of how the locally grown grapes are pressed, fermented and eventually transformed into wine. The wine sampling is held in the restaurant, where trained staff guide guests through a wine tasting session to sample different Maltese wines accompanied by a selection of local savouries like Maltese bread and cheese. Today’s guided excursion takes us to the central part of Malta, dominated by the medieval fortified city of Mdina, Malta’s former capital city. The narrow, winding streets, dating back to medieval times, lead to the imposing bastions, commanding a magnificent panorama of the island. On the way there, you will discover different styles of architecture, including Siculo-Norman palaces and other baroque buildings of great historical importance. Time stands still in this ‘Silent City’ which is a film-maker’s paradise. Leaving Mdina through Greeks’ Gate, we stop at the early Christian catacombs in Rabat before proceeding to the cliffs at Dingli. After lunch we will visit the San Anton botanical gardens situated near the Presidential Palace, which you will be able to admire from outside. We shall also spend time at the crafts centre at Ta’ Qali. At the end of the tour, allow us to astound you with Mosta’s majestic dome, one of Europe’s largest.
