The Mayan Ruins of Chacchoben are the most popular and visited attraction to spend a great day on the Costa Maya. It is approximately 55 minutes by car from the Port of Costa Maya. This site is located a few kilometers from the town of Chacchoben from which its name is derived. The translation of the Mayan word "Chacchoben" refers to "The Place of Red Corn." The structures at this site are characterized by large temples and enormous platforms dating back to 700 AD. c.

You will meet your guide at a central location in Mahahual. From there, we will take you to the Chacchoben archaeological site where you will have a 1.5 hour guided tour with a native guide who will unveil the history of a Mayan city that flourished around 300 AD. The activity is complemented with a walk under the jungle to explore and get to know the different structures on the site like: Templo 24, Plaza B, Gran Plaza, Gran Basamento, Los Gemelos, Las Vasijas and Temple One. This tour also offers the possibility of learning about local plants and seeing some species of local fauna including birds and spider monkeys.

The final spot to explore is the Pirate Channel, as you’ll be explained that day, pirates used to enter Bacalar by using this channel to steal local precious wood.

You’ll also have a beautiful view of the different shades of blue of the Lagoon.

An ATV tour is one of the best ways to explore the natural beauty of Costa Maya. This tour is a perfect combination of a funday full of adventure and relaxation at the beach. Your guide will lead you through the small fishermen's town to explore Mahahual, Costa Maya. Off you go through sandy roads and off-road dirt sometimes muddy paths along the beach leading to the lush jungle making this one of the best scenic ride and experience. Once your ride is over you can enjoy 3 hours Open Bar with lunch at the beach. Refresh in the white, sandy, shallow, pristine beaches or simply lay back and relax as the breeze gently caresses. You can also stroll along the boardwalk for local shopping. After your time is up your transportation back to the port can be arranged by the restaurateur, this transportation fee is not included.
