From June to August, during their breeding season, we observe the colony from the boat and add extra reef snorkeling time, when visibility is at its best. We close the day at Balandra. Access is limited by the protected-area authority, so this is a 25-minute stop at Mexico's most photographed beach — time for the view and your photos, not a swim. (During the months of June, July, and August, swimming with sea lions in their rookery is not allowed, so we just see them from the boat and snorkel and/or hike at another site of the island) We always try to take our clients to the beaches where there are less people, so that they get a unique experience with the feeling of adventure that we like so much. This is the Gulf of California, the sea Jacques Cousteau called the world's aquarium. Sea lion swimming is regulated to protect the colony: in-water encounters run September through May. From June to August, during their breeding season, we observe the colony from the boat and add extra reef snorkeling time, when visibility is at its best. We close the day at Balandra. Access is limited by the protected-area authority, so this is a 25-minute stop at Mexico's most photographed beach — time for the view and your photos, not a swim. Balandra is a shallow, turquoise bay inside a Protected Natural Area, and land access is organized in daily slots. That is why this day starts early: we pick you up at your downtown La Paz hotel at 6:30 and head straight for the first available slot, when the beach is at its quietest. At Balandra we set up umbrellas and chairs for you; snorkel gear is on board. Swim in the calm water, walk the shoreline and photograph the mushroom-shaped rock. Then we continue to Tecolote Beach, on the Gulf of California, for beach time and a seaside lunch with water and soft drinks before returning to La Paz around 2:30 pm.
