The Punta Maya Lighthouse, located on the coast of Matanzas, Cuba, is known for its impressive architecture and its vital role in navigation. This beautiful lighthouse located at the entrance to Matanzas Bay was founded in 1898 (it was formerly between the two houses), but the current tower is located a few meters from them and was completed in 1988. It has a height of 32 meters above sea level.

Beautiful place, we went with the idea of camping on the beach around the lighthouse, but for greater safety we decided to ask for permission to stay inside the campsite. They let us camp within the popular campsite and enjoy the facilities and recreational activities. The campground staff is very friendly. I recommend it.

The Lighthouse stands in an area categorized as a Wildlife Refuge, due to the large number and diversity of species in the area, many of them endemic to Cuba and the region.
On the northern coast of the province of Matanzas, about 116 kilometers northeast of the Cuban capital and 15 kilometers from Varadero beach, stands a tall tower: the Maya lighthouse, a sleepless coastal watchman. Its flash every nine seconds indicates to sailors the exact geographical location, in reference to nautical charts, which allows them to avoid reefs and coral banks, since in that area the low tide extends hundreds of meters towards the horizon. Located on the northern path of the old highway that led to Playa Azul, and today connects with a modern one with four paths and the same destination, the Maya lighthouse is located in front of the Lagoon from which it took its name.
