Absolutely beautiful location but basic sites and facilities (porta potties). Definitely worth a stop and a night or two on the beach

Great beach camp. Lots of flies but no mosquito.about $15 per site.

Another amazing stay. 250 pesos a night, camping on the beach, can't beat it!
Palapas have concrete floors, took our tent, but did not need it. We slept in our palapa without any problems.
Temperatures were at 100 degrees most days, but the water provided the perfect relief. We were in the water at 6 am each day and stayed until sundown.
There is a mini market here that has most of the necessities. Including ice. I would suggest exchanging pesos in the US at 19 to 1, as here they accept your dollar at 17.50 to 1.
This is our 3rd visit to Rancho Grande but the first time they had a guard that restricts access to the beach. Also there is a small stand right off the road that serves food and drink, although we did not order food, we did fill up our thermos there with horchata, very refreshing.
Be sure to buy water for the campsite as there us no running water. . We paid 90 pesos for a huge "tambo" of water that we used to rinse off after being in the water all day and to clean our dishes and whatnot.
The highway, 5 from Mexicali is in great shape! So much better just outside San Felipe. Took us 5 1/2 hours from the border, including a gas up stop and a quick stop in San Felipe for drinks.
Stopped in Mexicali for my FMM tourist visa, was free, was told since we were staying less than 7 days therexwas no charge! Stopped at both military checkpoints, but never was asked to show this document, but read mexican immigration officers have been at these checkpoints so did not want to take a chance.
There is no cellular service passing San Felipe, however at Rancho Grande they sell Wi-Fi for 15 pesos that reaches the palapas on the beach. A few in our party used it, was very slow on Saturday, but the campground was packed. On Sunday when the crowds left, the service was much faster.
Such an amazing place! Highly recommended.m

We stayed here for over a week and loved it. Nice large palapa with concrete floor and covered in the back which helped with the west wind. The outhouses did not smell and the one I used was clean. 250 pesos per day seems reasonable even there is no water or services other than trash pickup. Great beach. Great paddling in the bay.
