Stayed here for 4 nights in June 2025. After reading a lot of information we were a bit worried to go there, it turned out absolutely amazing! This beach is located 3 km from main road, so you need to take gravel road a bit bumpy but overall okay. At the start of this road village chief will ask toll, we were walking so it was 5 tala per person, for cars it is 40 tala, but it is one time payment and you will get to hidden paradise. However if you walk, owner offers a ride. The beach fales now are under one families care, they are so welcoming, kind and helpful people! They took such good care for us, they treated us like family and we went for a day trip together with them. There are lots of places near by to see. Breakfast and dinner are included in price, food was different every day, very delicious and generous!! During hot day they offered cold lemonade and some biscuits or fruit, that we didn’t experience anywhere else! Since it used to be a resort and lots of changes happened during years, there are some closed fales in bad conditions and still some rubbish left further down the beach, owner wants to take them down for good. Toilets and showers are good, clean, working. We stayed in open fale. It was clean, comfortable, very calm. Beach is beautiful and is good for snorkelling. I would absolutely love to come back one day and hang out with these kind hearted people!
They have 4 dogs very friendly, but take care, when they are around family and if food is involved, one of the dogs bit my friends leg, nothing serious, nothing that would ruin our vacation but just be careful(this had never happened before as the family told us later). At the moment beach fales are closed for filming survivor Australia, but it will re open, just call them and ask. They have facebook page under name “Matareva beach” Thank you Matareva beach fales!!❤️

Honestly, maybe not worth it. Had to pay 20 tala to someone at the entrance and then 50 tala at the beach for a fale. The place truly felt abandoned—bar/restaurant was shuttered, water was turned off in all the washrooms, some washrooms were boarded up, and we were the only people there all afternoon other than the woman who maybe worked there. The beach was pretty but rocky.

The man at the entrance lied to me and told me the beach is free once you pay him 20 tala to get in. He had then conveniently vanished when I got back up the 2 mile long road (which is not maintained and is full of thorns which have scratched the hell out of my rental car), having discovered that the (actually quite nice looking) beach costs 20 tala to sit on, or 40 tala for a fale.
Edited to increase star rating because when I went looking for this man the lady in the supermarket across the road (and slightly to the left) said she was going to bring it up at their council meeting and tried to refund me. I have no doubt that if this woman gets her way they’ll stop ripping tourists off. She also told me it’s only supposed to be 10 tala to sit on the beach.

FAVORITE STAY IN WHOLE SAMOA! 😍
Absolutely unique experience in a really private and stunningly beautiful beach. The fales are well maintained and the people running the place are super lovely and caring. After we stayed 2 nights we decided to come back later during our trip to stay 3 more nights and ended up spending half of our trip there. The price is absolutely fair and includes breakfast and dinner. Nice place for snorkeling and swimming surrounded by beautiful scenery! One of my highlights! 😍
