Instead, head to the local eatery where watchful eyes will keep an eye on your belongings. While the beach is safe for swimming, there are no lifeguards on duty, so use common sense and caution. Rip tides can occur, so it's best to head to the estuary at high tide or take a stroll to the rocks. And if you're lucky enough to visit between June and December, you might even catch a glimpse of sea turtles nesting on the beach. Just be sure to visit the volunteer station for more information.

I have had the pleasure of visiting over a dozen beaches in Costa Rica, but this particular one has captured my heart. The vast expanse of the beach during low tide makes it a delightful walk on the firm sand. The little huts are a great way to get some shade and relax (we got lucky and found some available at 9:15 am). The sandy bottom with no rocks on the main part of the beach makes it a safe place to swim and enjoy the waves, which are perfect for beginner surfers. Additionally, there is ample parking available, and the nearby restaurants serve delicious food. Overall, this beach is a must-visit for anyone looking for a serene and enjoyable experience.

It's situated just a 30-minute drive from Sámara, but the road leading to it is quite bumpy and full of potholes (especially in November). However, it's still accessible to 2-wheel drive vehicles. The beach is favored by surfers and boasts choppy waters along the shore. There are signs warning of rip currents, so caution is advised. While there's plenty of shade to be found, it's recommended to bring along beach towels or camping chairs for added comfort. There are no amenities available, so come prepared.

If you're looking for a place to waste your time and money, Sàmara is the perfect destination. The beach is nothing special, and the locals are only nice because they want your tourist dollars. The village is small and unremarkable, with only a handful of overpriced restaurants and food that's barely edible. The surfing is mediocre at best, and the hiking trails are overcrowded and poorly maintained. The waterfalls nearby are nothing more than a trickle, and the sunsets are nothing to write home about. The full moon parties are a sad attempt at recreating a wild island experience, and the island itself is underwhelming. In short, Sàmara is one of the most overrated places I've ever been. Save your time and money and go somewhere else.

Great place to explore! Within a few minutes we saw monkeys, coati, and iguanas. They have guided tours but we just went and walked around on our own, there are a few trails you can follow as well. Had food at their restaurant that was also good. If we had more time today, we would have definitely done a boat tour / snorkeling excursion! Well worth what you pay, made me so happy to see all of those monkeys!

Oh, the joys of staying at the beach during the rainy season! We had the pleasure of experiencing this in May and let me tell you, it was quite the adventure. Falling asleep to the sound of raindrops and waking up to a serene sunrise was a real treat.
Getting to the beach can be quite the challenge, but fear not, with a trusty 4x4 and a reasonable driver, you'll make it there in one piece.
Our accommodation boasted a stunning pool in the backyard with an awe-inspiring view of the horizon. We spent most of our time frolicking in the pool and indulging in a few Netflix binges here and there. Ah, the simple life!

This Costa Rican beach retreat is truly enchanting. From the moment we booked, Jenny provided us with helpful information about transportation and the local area. The photos of the home do not do it justice - it is truly magnificent. Our family stayed for a week in February 2020 and enjoyed every moment. The home was well-maintained and beautifully decorated, and the cleaning staff was exceptional and friendly.
While we encountered some ants, this is to be expected in the jungle. Lars and his team were quick to respond and take care of the situation, and it did not detract from our incredible experience. The pool was fantastic and the house setup was perfect for our family. We loved the BBQ Rancho area and fire pit, and the entire community was lovely.
The on-site restaurant, Aroma del Mar, was stunning and the food was delicious. We especially enjoyed the picadillo de papaya, which was the best meal we have ever had. The chef was amazing and the

Montezuma beach, oh what a delight! A perfect spot for a dip in the sea. However, you might want to hold your nose as you wade through the water, as it's been "enhanced" with some boat exhaust fumes. And don't forget to thank the local houses for their contribution to the stream flowing right through the beach, carrying their waste with it. But hey, at least you get to witness the constant arrival and departure of boats filled with tourists heading to the Tortuga Islands. So, if you're into polluted waters and boat traffic, Montezuma beach is your paradise!

And don't forget to thank the local houses for their contribution to the stream flowing right through the beach, carrying their waste with it. But hey, at least you get to witness the constant arrival and departure of boats filled with tourists heading to the Tortuga Islands. So, if you're into polluted waters and boat traffic, Montezuma beach is your paradise!

After a pleasant hike through the forest, the view of the beach is breathtaking. The beach is serene and secluded, as it can only be reached by hiking. There are a few showers and picnic tables available. The hike is roughly 5km and takes about 2 hours to complete, although it may take less time on the return trip. If you are quiet during your hike, you may even catch a glimpse of some wildlife. However, the path can be difficult to navigate at times, and some visitors may expect clearer instructions given the price.

The sandy bottom with no rocks on the main part of the beach makes it a safe place to swim and enjoy the waves, which are perfect for beginner surfers. Great place to explore! Within a few minutes we saw monkeys, coati, and iguanas. They have guided tours but we just went and walked around on our own, there are a few trails you can follow as well. Had food at their restaurant that was also good. If we had more time today, we would have definitely done a boat tour / snorkeling excursion! Well worth what you pay, made me so happy to see all of those monkeys!
