Showed up a little bit early, but good thing we did. Saw a coati, howler monkey and a couple of iguanas right in the parking lot. We could hear the capuchin monkeys fighting off in the distance somewhere.
Took Turismo Curu for a whale watching boat ride in the morning. Saw two mother/calf pairs right outside of the bay playing in the water. Looked like the little ones were having a grand time.
Saw a couple of turtles while out as well, for a nice bonus. Many pelicans and egret perched on the rocks.
Came back around noon for a quick visit with some parking lot iguanas, then out again for snorkeling around one of the large rocks in Islas Tortugas. Strong currents there, but many colorful fishes. Mr. Dixon was kind enough to retrieve a starfish off the bottom for us to see. Guy swims like a fish.
From there it was off to a beach on Islas Tortuga. Lots of pieces of coral on the beach there. There's wild boar on the island who are quite bold around people. Apparently they do bite, so watch the fingers.

Our stay at Villa 8 in Roma Del Mar was far from enjoyable. The house may have been beautiful, but the location was incredibly remote and required a 4 wheel drive just to access it. We were stranded in the middle of nowhere with no access to any activities or attractions.
While Natalia and Caroline were helpful with our accommodations, the lack of things to do made our stay unbearable. The only highlight was the restaurant where Mike and his staff made great pizza, but even their friendliness couldn't make up for the lack of options.
To make matters worse, we lost a piece of luggage on our last day and Lars was the only one who could help us. While he did go above and beyond to meet us in town and retrieve our luggage, it was too little too late.
The only communication we had during our stay was through WhatsApp, which was hardly a consolation. We were stuck in a beautiful house with nothing to do but stare at the amazing view.

Oh, the joys of staying at the beach during the rainy season! We had the pleasure of experiencing this in May and let me tell you, it was quite the adventure. Falling asleep to the sound of raindrops and waking up to a serene sunrise was a real treat.
Getting to the beach can be quite the challenge, but fear not, with a trusty 4x4 and a reasonable driver, you'll make it there in one piece.
Our accommodation boasted a stunning pool in the backyard with an awe-inspiring view of the horizon. We spent most of our time frolicking in the pool and indulging in a few Netflix binges here and there. Ah, the simple life!

Our stay here was absolutely amazing. The staff were incredibly helpful and went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. The property was very clean and beautiful, with sightings of howler monkeys and other wildlife on the premises, as well as sting rays in the beach water. This is a fantastic place to stay, especially if you have kids. We were thrilled to find a vegan menu available, and there was another restaurant nearby with vegan options as well. We will definitely be returning, as our experience here was truly special and made even better by the exceptional staff.

Montezuma beach, oh what a delight! A perfect spot for a dip in the sea. However, you might want to hold your nose as you wade through the water, as it's been "enhanced" with some boat exhaust fumes. And don't forget to thank the local houses for their contribution to the stream flowing right through the beach, carrying their waste with it. But hey, at least you get to witness the constant arrival and departure of boats filled with tourists heading to the Tortuga Islands. So, if you're into polluted waters and boat traffic, Montezuma beach is your paradise!

This beach is a hidden gem, tucked away from the crowds and noise. Although there is a section for boats, the majority of the beach is serene and peaceful. The sand has a unique black hue that adds to the natural beauty, and the palm trees provide a tropical ambiance. We were delighted to spot monkeys swinging from the branches, as well as squirrels and iguanas scurrying about. However, parents may want to take caution as the water can be deep and murky in some areas, making it less ideal for children. Overall, this beach is a tranquil oasis that offers a glimpse into the diverse wildlife of the area.

My 2.5 week stay in Montezuma during October 2019 was nothing short of enchanting. This charming village boasts of friendly locals who are always ready to lend a helping hand. The small community is home to skilled artisans who line the streets, showcasing their craft. The sense of togetherness is palpable, with everyone eager to assist each other. I made it a daily ritual to indulge in the delectable ice cream parlor, a true highlight of my trip.
The beach is nothing short of stunning, with pristine waters and soft sand. The turtle conservation center located here is a true gem. I was fortunate enough to volunteer at the center and was blown away by their dedication to keeping the community clean. From the school grounds to the football field and the beach, they left no stone unturned. The turtles were a sight to behold, and if you visit between October and December, you'll witness the release of baby turtles into the sea.

As a visitor, I must say that this beach is absolutely stunning. The sunsets are breathtaking, the food is delicious, the vendors are great, and the locals are incredibly friendly. Showed up a little bit early, but good thing we did. Saw a coati, howler monkey and a couple of iguanas right in the parking lot. We could hear the capuchin monkeys fighting off in the distance somewhere.
Took Turismo Curu for a whale watching boat ride in the morning. Saw two mother/calf pairs right outside of the bay playing in the water. Looked like the little ones were having a grand time.
Saw a couple of turtles while out as well, for a nice bonus. Many pelicans and egret perched on the rocks.
Came back around noon for a quick visit with some parking lot iguanas, then out again for snorkeling around one of the large rocks in Islas Tortugas. Strong currents there, but many colorful fishes. Mr. Dixon was kind enough to retrieve a starfish off the bottom for us to see. Guy swims like a fish.
From there it was off to a beach on Islas Tortuga. Lots of pieces of coral on the beach there. There's wild boar on the island who are quite bold around people. Apparently they do bite, so watch the fingers.
