The Fish Cellars is undoubtedly the best place we've ever stayed, and we've experienced many holiday cottages over the years! The attention to detail, decor, and comfort was outstanding. We were fortunate to be the first guests to use the hot tub, and with the sea view, it felt like being in the Mediterranean. There was plenty of relaxation for the adults and endless fun for the kids rock-pooling at the beach, which is just a 1-minute walk away. Communication with the owner was excellent. We can't wait to return.
We had an amazing week at The Fish Cellars, blessed with glorious English weather. While the weather can't be guaranteed, a comfortable stay certainly can. With 4 children and dogs, we never felt crowded. The basement was perfect for the kids and teenagers to hang out, offering plenty of entertainment and the added bonus of not being disturbed by their late arrivals due to the basement door. The kitchen was well-equipped with everything we needed, a rare find in many rentals. Having our groceries unpacked and ready upon arrival was a godsend, saving us from immediate shopping and satisfying our hungry teens.
The spacious seating area, stocked with hundreds of DVDs and games, and the large dining table where we could all sit comfortably, were fantastic. The balcony was a highlight, offering views over the courtyard to the sea that made us feel like we were abroad. The children loved the deep hot tub, a perfect addition to our stay. Breakfast on the balcony was a joy.
We had read comments about the house being warm, but we found that opening the doors to the courtyard and bedrooms, along with the windows in the morning to let in the cool breeze, and then closing the blinds during the day, worked perfectly. We were there during a heatwave! Fans in all the bedrooms also helped circulate the air well.
The location is ideal, close to two beaches. The right-hand beach, facing the sea, has a lagoon-like quality, perfect for small children and paddle boarding. Our swimming dogs loved it too, as there were no waves. The coastal path offered great dog walks, and Tregantle beach, near the old fort, with its golden sand, was a hit, though the steep path might be tiring with small children and beach gear.
We had a truly lovely week, and Yvonne was extremely helpful whenever needed. We will definitely be back.
