I visited the beach on a Saturday and found the entrance area to be extremely crowded. However, we soon discovered that dogs were not permitted, so we promptly turned back and left.
The beach is pleasant and doesn't have any rocks. You can access it by either going through the tunnel or going up and over the sand dune. It's a fantastic spot for kids to have a fun run on the way back.
This beach is my absolute favorite. It is incredibly easy to reach, and while I could complain about the lack of stones since I enjoy collecting rocks, it is still a fantastic beach for swimming and also has a lovely park nearby. The beach and park together make it so convenient to spend an entire day there. The $8 parking fee is definitely worth it. What sets this beach apart is its unique character, as it offers more than just sand.
Just a heads up, there are quite a few stairs to reach the beach, but it's totally worth it because the beach is amazing! The parking is conveniently located nearby and reasonably priced for the entire day. Plus, it's not as crowded as the state park.
The unique feature of Tunnel Park is the dune tunnel and the observation deck situated atop it. Despite its narrowness, the beach is inviting and less crowded compared to Ottawa beach. However, one drawback of the park is the lack of a satisfactory food selection. Regrettably, the only option available for lunch is a vending machine, which is quite disappointing. Therefore, it is advisable to bring your own lunch when visiting the park.
