Calm, measured rest and the sound of waves are perhaps the most common associations that arise with the word "beach". This is not surprising, as relaxation is exactly what many beach travelers are looking for. If you associate your vacation primarily with such activity, choose one of the 87 beaches in the country.

To make your choice easier, we have prepared a list of the best beaches for relaxation in Hong Kong.

Attraction and Infrastructure

As for the main features of the beaches of Hong Kong, they are as follows:

  • The country's beaches are mainly wide, moderate length and have a high level of cleanliness. The most common surface is sand of bright color.
  • Usually, entry into the water is moderately gentle, such beaches are 47.
  • The average distance from the road to beach in Hong Kong is less than 500 meters. 68 beaches are relatively easy to access, 10 beaches are difficult to access, which in most cases means that you have to walk a quite long distance, and 9 beaches are only accessible from the water. The latter include both island beaches and beaches with no land routes due to the natural borders.

Wild beaches with no infrastructure dominate the coastline of Hong Kong however, even here you can find a beach with a standard set of accessories: sun beds, umbrellas, restaurants, showers and toilets.

Latest reviews on Hong Kong's beaches

Silverstrand Beach

While the water may not be of the best quality, I appreciate the scenic view and the fact that it's not overly crowded. There are plenty of shaded areas to set up a tent or simply relax, although the number of changing rooms is limited. However, the shower areas make up for this shortfall.

Pui O Beach

This beach is peaceful and the sand is great. It's not too busy, and the on-site facilities are fairly tidy. Unfortunately, the BBQ pits are closed, but the snack store is open. Additionally, there's a store along the path to the beach - you'll spot it by the yellow cargo container and a few chairs.

Tung Wan Beach
8 Helen Hana Leung

Tung Wan Beach is the largest beach on Cheung Chau, boasting a stunning view and immaculate cleanliness. It's an ideal spot for families with children.

Tai Pak Beach
7 Kera Hel.

A place where you can sink your toes into the soft sands and revel in the not-so-clean waters. And if you're lucky, you might even be able to catch a glimpse of the pier. How thrilling! But fear not, for despite its proximity to the pier, this beach remains a peaceful oasis. So come, bask in the irony of it all and enjoy a day at the beach.

Whiskey Beach
4 Fai Chan Ho.

The water and sand were passable, but nothing to write home about. The beach lacked any real character or charm, and the overall atmosphere was rather dull. It was a shame to see such a lackluster destination, as there was so much potential for a truly spectacular beach experience.

Lower Cheung Sha Beach

This beach is alright considering the location. It's not among the top beaches I've visited, but if you happen to be in the area and looking for a beach, this is the one for you.

Please note that lifeguards supervise 31 beaches in the country, but you should rely on more than just them, remember the elementary rules, as lifeguards are not on duty around the clock, even on equipped beaches!

Finding hotels in relative proximity to the beaches is usually fine. Many beaches have enough nearby accommodation, which gives good opportunities to choose the right place to stay.
