Hapuna Beach

Upon arriving, we immediately spotted Nene as we made our way towards the beach. Though the parking situation was a bit challenging due to the ongoing renovations, the beach itself was pleasantly uncrowded. We enjoyed exploring the caves located on the southern end and found the sand to be perfect for swimming. The presence of lifeguards and nearby amenities made the experience even better. We definitely plan on returning in the future.

Kaunaʻoa / Mauna Kea Beach

The sandy shore is a sight to behold, but the overzealous gatekeepers can put a damper on your day. Rumor has it that they keep tabs on the number of vehicles allowed, but their counting skills leave much to be desired. We had to resort to taking snapshots of empty spaces in the lot to convince them that there was still room. After much ado, we were granted permission to enter the beach. It's worth noting that this is a public beach, yet the presence of a gate and guards monitoring access seems excessive.

The beach is truly impressive, with an abundance of lush vegetation, exotic marine creatures, and my personal favorites - the sea turtles that remind me of the beloved characters from Finding Nemo. It's definitely the ultimate destination for snorkeling enthusiasts.

Mauna Lani Club beach

This beach is an absolute gem, complete with all the amenities one could ask for - showers, comfortable chairs, and cozy cabanas, all available on a first come, first served basis. But what truly sets this beach apart is the incredible snorkeling experience it offers. Venture beyond the cove and explore the sea wall, where you'll be treated to a truly breathtaking underwater world. It's an experience that will leave you feeling rejuvenated and refreshed, and one that you won't soon forget. 🐠🌊

This beach is a true gem! The sand and water are pristine, making for a perfect spot to relax and soak up the sun. What's more, it's not overly crowded, so you can enjoy the tranquility of the surroundings. The beach is also equipped with picnic tables, making it a great place to enjoy a meal with loved ones. And if you're looking for an overnight adventure, there are plenty of camping grounds to choose from. This was the first beach we visited on the Big Island, and we're already planning our next trip back. 🌴🌊
