Ahoy there, mateys! Just returned from a secret rendezvous with the West Coast's best-kept beachy treasure – White's Beach! This ain't your average sun-and-sand stroll, mind you. This be a hidden gem tucked away amidst rugged cliffs and whispering waves, accessible only to those willing to brave a bit of a trek.
Now, there be three paths to this paradise, each with its own flavor of adventure. The first, from Anawhata Rd past the Craw campground, throws down a gauntlet of a steep driveway. But fear not, me hearties, the Rose Track waits at the bottom, weaving through the ferns with breathtaking views like pirate gold.
The second option, for the seasoned buccaneers, is the Laird Thomson Track. Shorter it may be, but prepare for ropes and scrambles that'll have your heart beatin' a pirate jig.
Finally, for the low-tide explorers, there's the coastal route, huggin' the cliffs from Piha or Anawhata. Mind the waves, though, they can be sneaky devils!
Once you reach White's, brace yourself for jaw-dropping beauty. Empty sands stretch out like an untouched treasure map, the only company the whisper of the waves and maybe a friendly fishing soul. No lifeguards here, so swim savvy is a must.
The Piha side boasts tidal pools teeming with crabs, starfish, and anemones – a kaleidoscope of life waiting to be discovered. Anawhata has its own secrets, with a hidden cave and sandy pools perfect for a mermaid's dip. Just keep an eye out for territorial oystercatchers – they guard their nests like buried booty!
Now, a few landlubber essentials: no loos on this island, closest one's at Anawhata Rd parking. Water? Bring yer own, mateys, this ain't no oasis. And for the trek, sturdy shoes are your trusty deckhands. Remember, Anawhata Rd be a winding serpent, so drive with a pirate's caution.
White's Beach, it ain't for the faint of heart, but for those who seek adventure and unspoiled beauty, it's a treasure worth unearthing. So grab your compass, pack your courage, and set sail for this hidden paradise! Just remember, the ocean be fickle, the cliffs be steep, and the oystercatchers be fierce. But with a bit of respect and a dash of pirate spirit, White's Beach will reward you with an experience that's pure gold.
Ahoy!
