Venire qui è una consuetudine poiché abitiamo a 40 minuti di distanza. Tutta la famiglia ama questo posto ed è una bella gita fuori per noi. Portate un picnic! Poiché i fuochi sono normalmente vietati in questo periodo dell'anno (estate) in quest'area - e in gran parte della Nuova Zelanda - non sono sicuro se si possa utilizzare un barbecue. C'è un delizioso caffè sulla strada principale a Ward, con bagni, stazione di servizio e un ampio parcheggio.

Fate attenzione sulla strada per arrivarci. C'è un "cattle stop" che non indica la velocità ottimale per attraversarlo. Consiglierei la velocità più bassa possibile poiché è molto peggio di un dosso. Ho anche incontrato una pecora sulla strada con i suoi 2 agnellini e avevano difficoltà a spostarsi, quindi fate particolare attenzione agli animali randagi. La spiaggia è molto rocciosa e può essere ventosa ma, complessivamente, è bellissima.

On November 14, 2016, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck the east coast of New Zealand's South Island. Cook Strait is known as one of the world's roughest stretches of water, part of the westerly wind belt called the Roaring Forties. This has led to numerous shipwrecks in the 19th century. The average ocean depth of Cook Strait is about 128 meters. Between 1845 and 1947, 19 ships met their fate along this east coast stretch. The earthquake uplift has revealed numerous rocks and reefs, explaining the perilous conditions. The lighthouse is located at the southernmost extreme of Cook Strait. Marfells Beach features a DOC camping ground, which is quite popular. This area is one of the sunniest places in New Zealand, so visitors can expect excellent weather.
