Guided Overleigh Cemetery Tour in Chester

1 godzina
Darmowa anulacja

Opened in 1850, Overleigh Cemetery hosts many fascinating graves and monuments that reflect Chester's rich and diverse history. Every gravestone conceals a life story waiting to be told, and every grave has a hidden history. Led by a qualified and insured Green Badge guide, tours will include visits to around 25 of the most notable graves. Designed by a famous local architect, T.M. Penson, the cemetery was laid out "with admirable taste" and included two lodges, two chapels, and an ornamental lake with three islands. Humble graves were unmarked or had a simple wooden cross, while the better-off had grander memorials. You'll discover the extraordinary stories of some of those laid to rest here, including Mary Jonas, who had 33 children, including 15 sets of identical twins; Edward Langry, the husband of Edward VII's mistress, who went crazy and died in the local lunatic asylum; and William Bidulph Cross, who made his own illuminated coffin from wooden matchboxes.

Quieter place than some of the other parts of the northern coast. When the tide is in, it’s a pebble beach, but still comfortable to lie on as they are nice large round pebbles. The nearby prom is good for distance walks and there’s sand dunes for the dog walking side too! If this was helpful, give it a like so it can help others 😉 Have a nice day!

Nice, fairly quiet section of Welsh beach. Easily accessible with reasonable parking as well as coffee and ice-cream stop for visitors. It's not as frequented as beaches further along so can make for a nice section to visit for a more peaceful time. Beach itself is fairly clean but could do with a clean up crew visit once in a while but definitely better than some visited

This is our local beach, we come here quite often. Small pay and display car park, but to be honest if your only going to be a couple of hours just park at asda (3hours max). Couple of places to eat, drink or grab an ice cream. Great views over towards the little orme.
