Cathedral Cove Beach

What a fantastic place to visit. Catch the shuttle to the walk's car park and it's about a 30 to 35 minute walk to Cathedral Cove. It's a decent hike back too. We'll worth the trek. We had a fine and quite warm day with no wind in the middle of winter. Very lucky.

Good walk. Went many years ago before parts of the tracks were damaged. Started from Hahei parking last time, this time we took the bus ($7pp return) and started from the top of the track. About 30min walk with 1 toilet 2/3rd the way. Views never get old. An absolute must when you visit.

Beautiful bay to relax and enjoy the view. Walking through the cove is a beautiful experience. Getting there is fairly easy by a roughly 25 to 30 minute walk from either car park. However the last bit consists of steep stairs. They are well maintained though.

Absolutely gorgeous. Great location, views, scenery and the walk in is adorable. It will be a challenge for less mobile people. You can't park there but have to park in a large collective carpark and walk or bus from there. Bus is $7 pp. Walk there is easy.

After the trail reopened, parking is no longer allowed at the summit starting point. You can take a paid shuttle bus from town to the summit, then hike about 45 minutes from the trailhead to the cave. Alternatively, you can hike from the beach to the cave, which takes about 1.5 hours. The fastest option is the water taxi from the beach, which takes just 5 minutes to reach the cave and costs $40 one way. The water taxi is advertised to start at 9 AM, but on weekdays in late March, it sometimes doesn’t start until 10 AM. The last water taxi from the cave back to the beach departs at 5 PM. If you hike to the cave and take the water taxi back to the beach, it’s only about a 15-minute walk from the beach to the town parking lot. The scenery is stunning, and I visit every year.
