This is a fantastic hidden gem of a beach, complete with a small waterfall and cave. I discovered it in early 2018 and have visited several times since. It's an excellent spot to unwind, fish, or simply enjoy the sound of the waves crashing. In my experience, you can either walk from the other bays or Bowentown beach end, or drive to a nearby small car park/property and take a short hike down, which takes about 30 minutes. Be sure to follow the marked trails, as they go through private property ☺️
This coastal hike to Homunga Bay and Orokawa Bay is absolutely breathtaking! The native crevices are fascinating and unlike anything I've seen before. The waves crashing below and the beautiful farmlands add to the experience. It's a tough hike that really works your leg muscles, but it's definitely worth it. I can't wait to come back and finish the falls and the Waihi Beach end.
