The roads leading to the beach are unpaved, so it's best to stay in nearby towns and arrive early in the morning, leaving by 3pm as the area is too deserted to stay late. The signs are not very clear, and GPS may not be helpful. There is an entrance fee of 150 pesos per person, and you will need to negotiate the boat ride. You can ask for the VIP area, which is a bit further from the common area, for around 2,000 pesos. Despite these challenges, I absolutely love this place, known as "Las Bahías de las Águilas".

If you're looking for a spot to drag your family to, then this beach in Barahona is definitely worth a visit. The scenery is breathtaking and the grub is scrumptious. The locals are a friendly bunch too. However, I'm not going to give it a perfect score because the lavatories could use a little extra attention. Plus, the tables are a tad too close for comfort, especially since COVID-19 is still out there lurking. But, if you can look past those minor grievances, then this is definitely a place you don't want to miss out on when you're in the Dominican Republic.

Looking for a mediocre beach experience? Look no further than this family-friendly, so-called "beautiful" beach near salt mines. The black sand on one side is nothing special, and the pebbly beach on the other is equally lackluster. Sure, the water is shallow, but that just means you'll be wading around with the screaming hoards of children. And don't even get me started on the wind - it's so strong you'll feel like you're being sandblasted. But hey, at least it's great for kites and kitesurfing - if that's your thing. Just make sure to bring plenty of insect repellent to fend off the horseflies that seem to swarm the area. Oh, and if you're feeling particularly adventurous (or masochistic), try the overpriced lobster at the diner on the beach. At least you'll have something to complain about.

If you're looking for a spot to drag your family to, then this beach in Barahona is definitely worth a visit. The scenery is breathtaking and the grub is scrumptious. The locals are a friendly bunch too. However, I'm not going to give it a perfect score because the lavatories could use a little extra attention. Plus, the tables are a tad too close for comfort, especially since COVID-19 is still out there lurking. But, if you can look past those minor grievances, then this is definitely a place you don't want to miss out on when you're in the Dominican Republic.

Looking for a mediocre beach experience? Look no further than this family-friendly, so-called "beautiful" beach near salt mines. The black sand on one side is nothing special, and the pebbly beach on the other is equally lackluster. Sure, the water is shallow, but that just means you'll be wading around with the screaming hoards of children. And don't even get me started on the wind - it's so strong you'll feel like you're being sandblasted. But hey, at least it's great for kites and kitesurfing - if that's your thing. Just make sure to bring plenty of insect repellent to fend off the horseflies that seem to swarm the area. Oh, and if you're feeling particularly adventurous (or masochistic), try the overpriced lobster at the diner on the beach. At least you'll have something to complain about.
