Super super nice beach. Without the seaweed this is in my top three beaches worldwide.
It is very quiet but not dangerously quiet. There's two or three restaurants to choose from (my favourite being the reasonably priced one at the far east of the beach), and multiple roads to reach the beach. The best road is the one leading to Caffè Coson and you can use a moped easily.
It's a beautiful beach with a nice curve, mix of wave strengths (be careful, there's extremely strong currents in some places), palm trees, and a river that changes shape every day.
When I went (Dec 2022) there was a bit of seaweed (like everywhere in DR) but seemingly not as much as Playa Bonita.
I recommend you set up camp near the river somewhere - you can get there on two wheels if you're a confident rider!

I had the pleasure of visiting the public beach, as I couldn't quite stomach the thought of staying at the hotel. I must say, it's touted as one of the best beaches in the world, but I wasn't quite sold on the hype. The morning and afternoon presented quite the contrast, with the wind and currents being marginally better in the morning - at least that's what I experienced during my visit in June.
If you're into snorkeling, you'll be pleased to know that the corals are just a few meters away from the beach, and there's a plethora of marine life to explore. The sun is quite pleasant, and it's a great spot to play with the little ones.
While it wasn't a total nightmare, I wouldn't quite say it was my idea of paradise. On the bright side, it wasn't too crowded, so you won't have to worry about being elbow-to-elbow with strangers.

I decided to embark on a hike from playa la Cana to playa Ermitaño. To begin this adventure, it is necessary to rent a scooter in order to reach the starting point. This alone adds an exciting element to the journey. Once you arrive, you can conveniently park your bike at the beach. The hike commences with a clearly marked path, although it gradually becomes less distinct. However, it remains visible enough that you won't lose your way. The hike itself is a breathtaking 30-minute trek through dense jungle, so be sure to use mosquito spray. It is truly a remarkable experience, particularly for avid hikers who appreciate magnificent destinations. Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed it and had the entire trail and beach to myself. Moreover, from this beach, you have the option to continue hiking to the adjacent beach, which is even more splendid albeit smaller in size.
I hiked from playa la Cana to playa Ermitaño. First you need to rent a scooter to get to this starting point. this already an adventure to get there. You can park your bike at the beach. The hike starts with a clear path but it quickly fades away. However, it is still there so you cannot miss. It´s a spectacular 30min hike through dense jungle (use musquito spray) but it´s a great hike with a fantastic destination for hiking lovers. I loved it and was completely alone during the hike and on the beach. Via this beach you can hike to the beach next to it, which is even better but smaller.

We visited this beautiful tranquil beach on a Tuesday. There were not many people around except a few visitors, restaurant workers, and fishermen.
There were a few officials from Santo Domingo examining the red mangroves. It wasn't quite clear if the redish pink color was natural or from a dye added to the water. It was the first time seeing red mangroves. It was a beautiful sight, including seeing turtles swimming.
You can see across to Playa Rincon and the rest of the beautiful bay and beaches.

We dined at the beach restaurant and had a terrible experience with 5 adults and 2 children. The food was not good - the pasta was undercooked, the sauces were all the same and overly sweet, and tasted like they came from a can. When we raised our concerns, the staff were dismissive. One meal was so undercooked that it had to be sent back, but it was not re-cooked until 20 minutes later. The manager argued about the quality of the food. We were extremely disappointed, especially considering the reputation of the resort and hearing about similar experiences from others.

This beach is nothing special, and the parking situation is a nightmare. If you're unlucky enough to arrive during peak season, you'll be circling the lot for hours. And even if you do manage to snag a spot, you'll be paying through the nose for the privilege.
Once you're on the sand, you can rent a couple of chairs and an umbrella for an exorbitant fee. And while the food prices aren't outrageous, the service is painfully slow. By the time your meal arrives, you'll be so hungry you'll eat anything.

I decided to embark on a hike from playa la Cana to playa Ermitaño. To begin this adventure, it is necessary to rent a scooter in order to reach the starting point. This alone adds an exciting element to the journey. Once you arrive, you can conveniently park your bike at the beach. The hike commences with a clearly marked path, although it gradually becomes less distinct. However, it remains visible enough that you won't lose your way. The hike itself is a breathtaking 30-minute trek through dense jungle, so be sure to use mosquito spray. It is truly a remarkable experience, particularly for avid hikers who appreciate magnificent destinations. Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed it and had the entire trail and beach to myself. Moreover, from this beach, you have the option to continue hiking to the adjacent beach, which is even more splendid albeit smaller in size.
I hiked from playa la Cana to playa Ermitaño. First you need to rent a scooter to get to this starting point. this already an adventure to get there. You can park your bike at the beach. The hike starts with a clear path but it quickly fades away. However, it is still there so you cannot miss. It´s a spectacular 30min hike through dense jungle (use musquito spray) but it´s a great hike with a fantastic destination for hiking lovers. I loved it and was completely alone during the hike and on the beach. Via this beach you can hike to the beach next to it, which is even better but smaller.

If you're into snorkeling, you'll be pleased to know that the corals are just a few meters away from the beach, and there's a plethora of marine life to explore. The sun is quite pleasant, and it's a great spot to play with the little ones.
While it wasn't a total nightmare, I wouldn't quite say it was my idea of paradise. On the bright side, it wasn't too crowded, so you won't have to worry about being elbow-to-elbow with strangers.

This beach is nothing special, and the parking situation is a nightmare. If you're unlucky enough to arrive during peak season, you'll be circling the lot for hours. And even if you do manage to snag a spot, you'll be paying through the nose for the privilege.
Once you're on the sand, you can rent a couple of chairs and an umbrella for an exorbitant fee. And while the food prices aren't outrageous, the service is painfully slow. By the time your meal arrives, you'll be so hungry you'll eat anything.

The beach itself is absolutely beautiful, transparent waters, all sandy ground, on one part with a fun wave caused by a sand bank. The shoreline is quite steep on some parts, so when going in, you're in hip or breast deep water in just a few meters, but it stays like this for a good 50-100m. The sand area is a bit littered, it doesn't seem like the locals keep it very clean, and bordered left and right by two all inclusive hotels who blast their music on the beach, additionally to the locals who love to bring their music boxes and mount a party on the beach. It is a quite crowded beach, due to its good access. So if you're looking for quiet relaxation and few to no other people, you better head further down the beach towards the nature reserve. You can rent two sun loungers + umbrella for 1000 RD$, one plastic chair for 150 and only an umbrella for 500. There is no shade on the front line, only in the access part of the beach are a few trees that provide good shade, if you don't mind the ants on the floor. We haven't seen any food shops, but there is a bar with shadow on the entrance of the beach and a couple tourist shops right on the shore. There's a large parking at the entrance, where you "can pay a fee or not" to the security guy to "watch" your car. There are no public showers or bathrooms. It is not allowed to bring animals. It's a blue flag beach so the water quality is monitored and good. Perfect place to watch the sunset.

Super super nice beach. Without the seaweed this is in my top three beaches worldwide.
It is very quiet but not dangerously quiet. There's two or three restaurants to choose from (my favourite being the reasonably priced one at the far east of the beach), and multiple roads to reach the beach. The best road is the one leading to Caffè Coson and you can use a moped easily.
It's a beautiful beach with a nice curve, mix of wave strengths (be careful, there's extremely strong currents in some places), palm trees, and a river that changes shape every day.
When I went (Dec 2022) there was a bit of seaweed (like everywhere in DR) but seemingly not as much as Playa Bonita.
I recommend you set up camp near the river somewhere - you can get there on two wheels if you're a confident rider!

We dined at the beach restaurant and had a terrible experience with 5 adults and 2 children. The food was not good - the pasta was undercooked, the sauces were all the same and overly sweet, and tasted like they came from a can. When we raised our concerns, the staff were dismissive. One meal was so undercooked that it had to be sent back, but it was not re-cooked until 20 minutes later. The manager argued about the quality of the food. We were extremely disappointed, especially considering the reputation of the resort and hearing about similar experiences from others.

你有两个选择来到这个海滩。A选项是停车然后乘船快速5分钟到达最好的海滩，费用大约为1000比索。另外，B选项允许你支付150比索的入场费，沿着土路开车，路上有两个非常陡峭的点需要通过。
一旦你到达海滩，你会发现一个宁静和安全的环境。有警察在场，还有保护海洋生物的保护人员。还有很棒的浮潜点，你可以观察到海中更远处的苔藓斑块。重要的是不要触摸海星，因为它们是活生物。
你可以花几个小时沿着海滩散步，甚至可能到达你最喜欢的007电影中的约会地点，进行浪漫的会面。建议自带物品，因为现场没有太多可购买的东西。此外，没有洗手间设施，所以请提前计划。如果你计划整天待在这里，考虑带上一个遮阳的类似露营的结构以增加舒适度。船上的人会乐意帮助你搭建。

Super super nice beach. Without the seaweed this is in my top three beaches worldwide.
It is very quiet but not dangerously quiet. There's two or three restaurants to choose from (my favourite being the reasonably priced one at the far east of the beach), and multiple roads to reach the beach. The best road is the one leading to Caffè Coson and you can use a moped easily.
It's a beautiful beach with a nice curve, mix of wave strengths (be careful, there's extremely strong currents in some places), palm trees, and a river that changes shape every day.
When I went (Dec 2022) there was a bit of seaweed (like everywhere in DR) but seemingly not as much as Playa Bonita.
I recommend you set up camp near the river somewhere - you can get there on two wheels if you're a confident rider!
