A truly wonderful beach, it lived up to our many expectations, and is no less than the wonders of Crete: Falasarna, Balos, and Elafonissi. Crystal-clear water, breathtaking blue hues, pure white sand, a long coastline, and stretches of smooth rock and pink sand. A paradise, fortunately not yet overexploited (I'm talking about the larger Simos beach, which has a campsite of the same name behind it). Unfortunately, we found the adjacent smaller Simos beach less appealing, due to excessive human exploitation, with too many umbrellas at ridiculous prices and other things, including a nearby construction project on the coast nearing completion. Following advice found online, we parked for free next to the campsite, walked through the campsite, then across the dunes, and arrived at the group of umbrellas. They charged us twenty-five euros for the umbrella and lounger set, which included either two soft drinks or two coffees/frappes. Sitting in the front row, just steps from the shore, with excellent coffees, we enjoyed a day at the beach that we will long remember, with countless swims and dives, trying to dodge the biting fish in the water. There is a shower at the campsite, at the exit arch to the dunes, at the start of the wooden boardwalk. Unmissable!
