I recently visited Muriwai Beach, and it was such a beautiful experience. The view of the waves crashing against the cliffs was absolutely breathtaking, especially at sunset. Beautiful sunsets at Muriwai Beach.
I loved walking along the beach, it felt so peaceful and endless. Watching the gannets in their colony was a real highlight; it’s amazing to see them up close in their natural environment.
The area is windy, which adds to its wild and untouched vibe. It’s a great spot for surfing, swim with caution because of the strong currents. Always swim between the flags, they have lifeguards on duty. There are picnic areas and good parking, which made it easy to relax and enjoy the day.
I recommend make it, a Beach day - bring a picnic, gazebo and music because it's a 45 - 50 minute drive from the city, so make the most of it. There's lots to do at Muriwai - walking tracks, swimming, surfing, playground, cafè, paragliding, kite flying and fishing. Definitely a must to watch the Muriwai sunset before driving back home.
Overall, Muriwai Beach felt like a little escape into nature’s raw beauty. I’d definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a scenic and peaceful spot near Auckland.
